What Ubisoft Connect does in daily use
Ubisoft Connect is a Windows game launcher for installing, updating, and starting Ubisoft games. Its library brings those tasks together, while cloud saves can keep progress synchronized between PCs in supported games. For games that support cross-progression, it can also carry progress across platforms.
Players can use Ubisoft Connect to access their Ubisoft library and, with a subscription, the Ubisoft+ catalog. The app also provides a friends list, invites, and an in-game overlay, giving players ways to connect while playing. Ubisoft Connect replaced Uplay as Ubisoft’s PC platform.
Limits to consider
The launcher is often an additional requirement rather than an optional convenience. Many Ubisoft games purchased through Steam or Epic still launch Ubisoft Connect and require a Ubisoft account sign-in. Players who do not use Ubisoft games have little reason to install it, and the app displays store promotions.
The application and account are free, but games and the Ubisoft+ subscription are paid. Cloud saves and cross-progression are not universal: each feature works only with supported games. The app’s role in accessing a subscription catalog therefore depends on having an active Ubisoft+ subscription.
Account setup and everyday controls
After running the installer, sign in with the Ubisoft account associated with your games. If you purchased a game through Steam or Epic, use the account linked to that purchase so the launcher can recognize it. Enabling two-step verification adds an extra security step to account access.
Some behavior can be adjusted in the app’s settings. You can disable the in-game overlay if you do not need its friends and invite features, and you can turn off the option to start Ubisoft Connect with Windows. These controls let you keep the launcher available for games without having it appear at startup or overlay gameplay.
When it fits a PC gaming setup
Ubisoft Connect is primarily useful for people who play Ubisoft titles on Windows, whether their games were purchased through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, or Epic. It centralizes installation and updates, and it provides Ubisoft-specific account features such as cloud saves and supported cross-progression. For a game that requires the launcher, installing it and signing into the linked account is part of the normal launch process.
The program supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. Its practical value depends on the Ubisoft games in a player’s library and which features those titles support; it is not a general-purpose launcher for people who do not play Ubisoft games.
